Speed Week 2021 is looking like a go right now. We have updated the suspension to try and deal with a non-smooth track, if that is what Mother Nature gives us.  We are also changing the fuel cell adding some fuel capacity, we were real close to not having enough depending on the boost level we will need to go to.  I am skipping my evaluation of the track this year.  The track is apparently ok and I need to go out and tune the car anyway.  If it is a good track then I will attempt a record.   Type your paragraph here.

The parts to repair the transaxle on the salt were not immediately available to bring up. We have pulled the transaxle out at the track.  The entire unit will be driven from the salt to Los Angeles for rebuild. The plan will be to have everything up and running so we can run at the World of Speed event mid-September.

World of Speed 2012 was a long twisted tale riddled with more transaxle problems.  We installed the transaxle in the parking lot of the hotel Sunday, the day before pit setup on the salt. It “dry shifted” through all of the gears fine without the motor running. Monday, during setup on the salt, the first time we backed it out of the trailer, we discovered it was stuck in 6th gear.  We then had to take the entire unit back out of the car to be disassembled. The only way to have a chance of running was to take all the gears and associated parts back to Weismann’s shop in California for re-machining.  I flew to California that night with a very heavy bag of gears and shafts so they could be machined early in the morning.  Roberto Weismann and I then flew back to Salt Lake City with the parts early Tuesday morning.  Roberto then re-assembled the unit in the trailer.  Then the unit was reinstalled in the car on Wednesday and we made a partial test run at the end of the day with a very poorly running motor.  Thursday, after some adjustments, we made a full pass to the 5 mile.  This was our first full pass with the new turbos and motor configuration.  It still needed some tuning, so we did not go as fast as we would have liked to, 364 MPH (short of our goal).  The full pass to the 5 mile, however, did break the transaxle again.  It was now stuck in 4th gear with no neutral. With no time to remove the transaxle from the car, remove 4th gear then put the transaxle back into the car, we tried something a little different.   We pushed the car to a higher than reasonable speed, then started the car.  It lugged down for about a mile, then picked up speed.  It worked ok but wouldn’t give enough speed in the early going to run over 400 MPH. With only a half day left in the event, we had to throw in the towel and pack up.
